Is Terry Black’s BBQ really worth the hype?
During my first trip to Austin, Texas, one place kept coming up in every recommendation—Terry Black’s BBQ. So naturally, I had to experience it for myself.
From the moment we arrived, we could see why this legendary BBQ restaurant has become one of Austin’s most popular destinations. We were lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes look at their wood-fired smoker, where briskets are slow-smoked over oak wood for nearly 12 hours, with temperatures carefully maintained between 200°F and 300°F. That traditional “low and slow” cooking method creates incredibly tender, juicy brisket with a rich smoky flavor that Texas barbecue is famous for.
The scale of their operation is just as impressive. On an average day, Terry Black’s serves approximately 3,000 pounds of meat, and during busy weekends, that number can reach 5,000 pounds!
If you’re planning a trip to Austin, this is one food experience you definitely don’t want to miss.
